Stunningly beautiful, sublime music from a true gentleman and an amazing musician and singer. Those songs can really pluck the old heartstrings. Tracks 1,2,5,8,10,12 were all I could play in the beginning because the emtional power of the others was SO STRONG it reminds one of Hank Williams, Sr. or Billie Holiday. The sadder, sometimes death and disaster filled songs (eg: "Blind Child' "There'll be no blind ones there...") can show (and hopefully, lead) some listeners who may not be familiar with the originals the amazing tradition they originate from and represent. And the final tune ("Many Rivers...") has helped to carry me through much sadness and grief. As I've told Mr. Helm more than once: thank you, thank you, thank you (and all those who play and work with you) for enriching our lives for almost 5 decades (who'd a thunk?) with your amazing talents. | Had to put my 2cents in on this! I had reviewed Electric Dirt without giving it a second listen and I'm ashamed! Dirt farmer won a Grammy rightfully so.. Electric Dirt continues and should get a Grammy as well. The vocals alone on "When I go Away" are worth the honor. 5 stars for Dirt Farmer and a 5 stars for Electirc Dirt!!!! Wish i could remove my previous review. There is NO BETTER MUSIC being made today than these 2 recordings!!! | ||||

This has been too long overdue, but man, was it ever worth the wait!!! Thank you Levon, for the best thing I've heard on CD since.....well, I can't remember the last time an entire album was a hit with me. Greedy me - I'm waiting for the next one now. |
